Nine years in Inglewood

Our Story

Chakra is a progressive, family-run Indian restaurant, showcasing unexplored, iconic dishes from across the landscape of India.

The Chakra family, three generations, smiling together around a table

The family

Run by family, for nine years

For nine years Chakra has been a family affair. Kumar and Sonia, with Kumar's brother Chef Ash and Namita, are at its heart, and the next generation has grown up with it: Kumar and Sonia's daughters, Ish and Aura, and their cousins Kabir, who was here on opening night, and Ohm, who was born after Chakra opened its doors.

The kitchen is led by Chef Ash, whose creative vision earned him Head Chef of the Year at the AHAWA awards in 2023.

Atithi Devo Bhava

The guest is god

Atithi Devo Bhava is the Indian tradition of hospitality that places the guest in the position of a god. It's the principle behind every table we set: caring, unhurried service, and a welcome that feels like coming home.

Why "Chakra"

The wheel within

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel: the life force spinning inside us, the body's energy centres. Food plays an important role in keeping them in balance.

The food

Close to the roots

Our dishes come with untold stories. We cook the real food of India using traditional techniques, high-quality local produce and contemporary presentation: free-range chicken, grass-fed Narrogin lamb, Harvey beef and Narrogin goat, a true delicacy, among them. Everything is made in-house, with whole herbs and spices, no artificial colours and no MSG.

Because everything is freshly cooked, we can cater to almost any dietary need, with separate vegan and vegetarian menus and plenty of gluten-free and dairy-free choices. Read about dietary needs.

The bar

Indian-inspired, hand-crafted cocktails

Our signature cocktails get the same care as our food. Each one is hand-crafted around Indian flavours, from saffron-infused gin and cardamom bitters to chilli tequila and six-spice vodka. It's a side of Chakra many of our guests know us for. See the cocktail list.
